coolAltitude 3.2

coolAltitude is a user-friendly tool tailored for IFR pilots, facilitating temperature correction calculations during ILS (CAT I), RNAV/GNSS, VOR, and NDB approaches in cold weather conditions. Additionally, it has the capability to decode SNOWTAM reports from METAR data.

The primary advantage of coolAltitude is its streamlined approach to data entry, which minimizes the burden on users. The essential inputs required for calculations include:

• Intermediate approach altitude
• Descent angle of the approach
• Minimums
• Runway elevation
• Height over the runway threshold
• Temperature at the airport (in °C or °F)
• Minimum Sector Altitude (MSA) and Go Around altitudes, if applicable
• Optional DME shift for offsets from the runway threshold
• Optional SNOWTAM input
• Optional GRF/RCAM information

In return for this minimal data entry, users receive a variety of useful outputs in a graphical and accessible format:

• Temperature-corrected altitudes for all entered values
• Temperature-corrected altitudes for heights above the intermediate approach altitude
• Temperature-corrected altitudes for significant DME distances, formatted for ease of use
• Corrected descent angles for flights equipped with Flight Path Angle (FPA) capabilities
• Pressure altitude of the airport measured in hectopascals
• A table displaying both corrected and uncorrected vertical speed values (ft/min) during descent, based on varying ground speeds (kt)
• A conversion table between QFE values in meters and QNH values in feet, including temperature-corrected altitudes optimized for use in Russian regions
• A decoded SNOWTAM report that includes braking action recommendations according to ICAO standards and Normative/CIS scales, as well as experimental advice based on runway conditions and airport temperature
• The Runway Condition Assessment Matrix (RCAM) aligned with ICAO's Global Reporting Format (GRF) for runway surface conditions

It is important to note that this tool requires certification from the appropriate aviation authority and must be included as part of an operator's Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) package to be utilized in operational scenarios.
